Pointing Your Domain to Your New Site

You already own a domain — here's how to connect it to your Website Hire website.

Before you start: make sure your site has been built and approved. If you're not sure, check your status at order-status.php — it should show Approved or Live. Your site code will have been emailed to you when you signed up.

Two ways to connect your domain

Choose the option that suits you. Option A is simpler — we recommend it for most clients.

Option A — Recommended Change Your Nameservers

Log in to wherever you bought your domain (e.g. Domains.co.za, GoDaddy, Afrihost) and update the nameservers to ours. We then manage everything for you.

  1. Log in to your domain registrar (where you bought the domain)
  2. Find DNS or Nameservers settings for your domain
  3. Replace any existing nameservers with all of these:
Nameserver 1: ns1.stackdns.com
Nameserver 2: ns2.stackdns.com
Nameserver 3: ns3.stackdns.com
Nameserver 4: ns4.stackdns.com
⚠ Using email on this domain? If you have addresses like info@yourdomain.co.za, changing your nameservers moves your email to us as well. Tell us first and we'll set up your mailboxes so nothing stops working.
  1. Save the changes
  2. Email us to let us know — we'll set up the domain on our end
Option B Add an A Record

If you want to keep your DNS at your current provider (e.g. you have emails or other subdomains set up there), add an A record instead of changing nameservers.

Please contact us for our server IP address — we'll send it along with setup instructions specific to your registrar.

Propagation takes up to 48 hours.

After updating your DNS, changes spread across the internet gradually. Your site may not appear immediately — this is normal. Most updates take between 1–4 hours; in rare cases up to 48 hours.
